The Uni-lance kit is used to quickly slice or blow holes through the most durable materials through a process called exothermic cutting. Typically, this oxidation process occurs when steel is heated to the maximum temperature and injected with oxygen under high pressure.

The optimal reaction reaches the temperature level of 7500 degrees Fahrenheit therefore, using Uni-lance rods in exothermic cutting is highly efficient for piercing ferrous and non-ferrous materials in railroad applications. Exothermic cutting can be used in concrete and rock applications as well and suitable for all types of metal. Ultimately, this cutting technique can provide railroad maintenance workers with a quick and powerful cut.
