The J.Lanfranco THU 1”-8 Self Locking Nut is a 1” diameter locknut with an 8 thread count that possesses a unique self-locking technology. These locknuts are ideal for maintenance-of-way operations on critical sections of rail such as diamonds and frogs because they are proven to stay put no matter how much overhead traffic or vibrations. While the standard nut-and-lock-washers on critical bolted joints usually require tightening every other day or so, the THU self-locking nuts do not require any tightening while still maintaining a strong hold. It is also a single-piece design, requiring no additional inserts when installing and is compatible with any standard bolt on a rail joint bar.
The 1”-8 THU Self Locking Nut was constructed using a unique locking design with two locking slots on either side. When installed, the locking slots expand and grip tightly onto the flanks of the bolt locking it in to any position. The locking torque applies evenly over two planes on opposite sides.
Beyond this, the grade 8 alloy steel used in the design is resistant to corrosion, adhesive wear and galling despite extreme temperature and heavy train loads, improving its overall durability and longevity.
